The present review aimed to gather information about sociocultural, educational, governmental, environmental and public health issues about the handlers of the Perna perna mussel in the state of Rio de Janeiro and the need for training in Good Practices and Continuing Education. Articles published between 2006 and 2016 were identified. The search was carried out in several electronic databases. The “Critical Appraisal Skills Programme” (CASP) checklist evaluated the methodological quality. Fifteen articles met the inclusion criteria. The interpretation was made by the analysis of content, inferring that the mussel Perna perna marketed in the state does not fully meet the standards of safe food and the set of commercial and sanitary norms, which turns the activity into potential risk for consumers.Downloads
