This study aimed at following the impacts on the formal labor market from investments in the area of influence of the Petrochemical Complex of Rio de Janeiro (COMPERJ). We used data from the Annual Social Information (RAIS) and the General Registry of Employee and Dismissed (CAGED), both from the Ministry of Labor and Employment. Data analysis revealed that, in absolute terms, the service sector was the main employer in the region. It is a very heterogeneous sector, covering various levels of education and income ranges. Commerce was the sector with the second highest number of active links in COMPERJ, followed by construction sector. Thus, one can notice that the impacts on the formal labor market are notorious. These results indicate the need for alternatives that reduce inequalities between regions, and structural changes that may lead to a better distribution of income, since regional differences can be generated by this enterprise.Downloads
