Abstract

The article discusses the integration of quilombola communities as a social protection action that emerged from the 1988 Constitution. This form is characterized by a broader scope of coverage to partially disengage the contributory model in effect since 1930. More specifically, we discuss the case of the Lapinha community, located in northern Minas Gerais. Backed by the so-called "Theory of Recognition," we conclude the article by indicating that the recognition of the remaining quilombos presupposes that they establish semantic bridges capable of taking them to identify common situations of deprivation, and hence derive means to guarantee the continuity of their struggles. On the other hand, it is important to critically analyze the processes from which government agencies can ensure public spaces of participatory parity able to generate recognition in the judicial sphere that, in addition to positive cultural valorization, may facilitate the redistribution of economic prospects.
