This paper presents the results of a study about the quota system at the Universidade Estadual do Norte Fluminense Darcy Ribeiro (UENF). Quotas at UENF cover the following beneficiaries, after low-income verification: public school students, blacks, indigenous, people with physical disabilities, and children of police officers killed or disabled in the line of duty. The study focused on the comparative analysis of the 2008 and 2009 entrance examinations. The relationship between supply and demand for vacancies as well as the passing grades were analyzed. The analysis revealed that there is a greater demand for quotas in the courses in which the candidate/vacancy ratio is higher, and that quotas are unnecessary for approval in many courses.Downloads
