The management of chemical waste in academic laboratories presents a growing challenge due to the expansion of experimental activities, the diversity of substances involved, and the managerial and budgetary limitations faced by many institutions. This study aims to understand the main difficulties and challenges in managing chemical waste generated in chemistry laboratories at educational institutions. To achieve this goal, a systematic literature review was conducted following the PRISMA protocol. A total of 19 articles were selected and analyzed, resulting in the classification of findings into three main categories. The reviewed studies reveal an increasing concern regarding the proper disposal of chemical waste, highlighting the relevance of institutional policies, educational programs, and sustainable practices. Although the articles addressed various aspects of waste management, there is a notable lack of publications focused specifically on the reality of chemistry laboratories, indicating a need for further research. Nonetheless, the findings make a significant contribution to the advancement of knowledge in the field and provide a foundation for the development of more effective guidelines. Proper chemical waste management in educational settings requires the integration of technical, educational, and administrative aspects to foster safer, more responsible, and sustainable academic environments.Downloads
