The School is (in) the Park: spatial possibilities for Education in Macaé (Brazil)

In general, the city has formal and non-formal educational spaces. Among the possibilities, there is the urban park, which is often not fully utilized due to problems, such as, lack of use and appropriation, lack of maintenance and security, abandonment, crime, etc. However, if taken care of, it can provide benefits for education and the city. In this context, the article aims to present a requalification project of Parque da Cidade in Macaé (Brazil), characterizing it as a non-formal educational space of quality, in order to enhance its use and appropriation by citizens, including the school community, through the creation areas of coexistence, recreation, sport, culture and others. For this, the methodology involved bibliographic and documentary research, field research and project development. The results indicate that it is possible to create urban public spaces that can stimulate the use of parks for educational purposes.Downloads
