Stress-triggering factors can compromise quality of life and affect the individual as a whole, including his/her professional performance. We investigated the risk factors that increase the level of stress among nursing professionals in the Intensive Care Unit of a hospital in the city of São José do Calçado (Brazil), to identify the problems that are associated with stress. It was verified that the elevation of stress levels is caused mainly by the high responsibility and demand for safety and respect for the patient and, despite being considered to be a stressful environment, the level of stress was not high in the analyzed hospital unit.Downloads
