Abstract

The analysis of economically feasible and environmentally correct solutions for the treatment and disposal of sludge from Waste Water Treatment Plants is still a technical and economic challenge. The present study is to measure the production of solid waste and verify the sludge production in decanters of a Waste Water Treatment Plant in Ouro Preto, Brazil. Research has shown, as quantitative analysis, the most feasible technique for sludge treatment for that Plant is dewatering by drying bed and, for final disposal of the waste, its use as by-products or accommodation in landfills.
